Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out how students' perceptions about the use of YouTube as a media to learn for academic speaking skills in the English Study Program of IKIP PGRI Pontianak This research is quantitative descriptive. There were 20 students selected using a proportional random sample. In collecting data, this study used qualitative method with case study design. This research uses questionnaires and semi�structured interviews as the instruments. The results showed that students used social media to learn and improve their English skills. They choose YouTube as the most used application, the use of YouTube as media to learn English speaking skills are five
respondents, it was found that there were 3 respondents who had a perception of improving speaking skills. They use YouTube and it can make it easier for them to understand and know more about dialects, how to pronounce them, from five
respondents, and then found that there were 2 respondents who had positive perceptions. Students had positive perceptions about using YouTube to learn English. so much to gain from it. Like about grammar, vocab pronunciation, and from five respondents it was found that there were 4 respondents who had the perception that it was easier to use
YouTube as a medium for learning English.
