Abstract

The objective of this research was to describe whether Picture and Picture Model can improve the students’ English writing skill to the Eleventh Grade Students’ of SMAN 1 Simpang Hulu in the academic year of 2018/2019. The researcher used a classroom action research (CAR) as the methodology of research. The subjects of this research were eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Simpang Hulu which consist of 26 students. The techniques to collect the data were observation technique and measurement technique. The tools to collect the data were observation checklist, field note, and writing test. The quantitative data was derived from writing test was analyzed by using descriptive statistics. The qualitative data were derived from observation checklist and field note. Based on the data, the result showed that Picture and Picture Model can improve the students’ English writing skill. The observation checklist and field note showed that students’ attitude, interest, and attention improved from the first cycle to the Second cycle by describing the students and the teacher performance which was increased during teaching learning process. Furthermore, there was an improvement of students’ English writing skill according to the writing test in which the mean score was 52,1 in the first cycle, and increased became 69,8 in the second cycle. It showed there was an improvement in students’ English writing skill. Based on the research findings, the researcher concluded that Picture and Picture Model improved the students’ achievement in English writing skill on analytical exposition text.
