Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of improving students' pronunciation of English words when reading texts. By using Classroom Action Research as a research design conducted for 2 cycles. The subjects of this study were students of class VII E SMP Negeri 1 Sungai Kakap. In collecting data, researchers used observation checks, field notes, and pronunciation tests to determine the improvement of students' pronunciation by using the read-aloud technique. The researcher used voice recording to assess students' pronunciation of English words. Based on the data obtained, it was found that before the application of the
read aloud technique, students lacked confidence in what they said in English. In addition, students' enthusiastic attitude towards pronouncing words in English was also lacking. The conclusion that can be drawn from the application of the read aloud technique is that this technique is said to be successful in an effort to improve students' pronunciation while reading descriptive text in front of the class. In other words, the technique can be one of the references that can be applied to improve students' pronunciation when reading in English.
