Abstract
This study aims to find out English teacher’s strategies and the challenging that English teacher face in teaching reading comprehension to the secondary grade student of SMA Santo Benedictus Pahauman. This research by using a
descriptive qualitative approach involving English Teacher in SMA Santo Benedictus Pahauman. Technique of data collection used in this research was direct communication techniques in the form of semi-structured interview and the
tool was interview guidance. The data analysis used in this research was descriptive qualitative in the form of data reduction, data display dan conclusion. The results of this study showed that the strategy that the English teacher uses in teaching reading comprehension is reciprocal teaching. Reciprocal teaching strategy is one of teaching reading strategies that can solve student problems. Reciprocal teaching strategy helps students with four steps, such as predicting, questioning, clarifying and summarizing. Furthermore, the challenging that English teachers often face at SMA Santo Benedictus Pahauman in teaching reading comprehension is a strategy that is not suitable for students' abilities. That is why choosing a strategy that matches the ability of students is very crucial. Which of course will affect the output that will be obtained later.
