Abstract

ABSTRACT

Veronica Kirantha (321510070): Using Survey, Question, Read, Recite,
Review (SQ3R) Method In Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension (A
Classroom Action Research to the Tenth Grade Students of SMA Karya Budi
Putussibau in Academic Year of 2019/2020).
This research aimed to find out how Survey, Question, Read, Recite,
Review (SQ3R) method can improve students’ reading comprehension. This
researcher was conducted through classroom action research (CAR) design. The
subject of this research was the students of class X MIPA of SMA Karya Budi
Putussibau consisted 34 students.
This research used observation and measurement as a technique of data
collection. The tools of data collection were observation checklist, field note, and
reading test. Then, the data analysis used in this research was qualitative data
analysis to analyze qualitative data and quantitative data to analyze the
quantitative data.
The result of this research showed that SQ3R method could improve
students” reading comprehension. It could increase students; achievement in
reading comprehension, and the students’ progress in attitude toward english
lesson especially in reading. The students’ actively involved in teaching and
learning process. It proved that SQ3R method improve students’ reading
comprehension in two cycles. The students score in first cycle was 63,67 and the
second cycle is 75,44.
Based on the research findings, it could be implied that SQ3R method is
one the effective method that can be used for teaching method in teaching and
learning activity. Therefore, the researcher suggest to the teacher apply SQ3R
method in teaching reading as on of method in teaching reading comprehension.
