This research was aimed to find out students’ difficulties in reading comprehension faced by the second grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Selakau Timur in academic year of 2014/2015. This research was intended to give information to the teachers related to the students’ difficulties in learning reading comprehension. Hopefully, when teacher has already known the areas of the students’ difficulties in learning reading comprehension they will be easier to solve the problem that faced by the students.
This research is a descriptive study. The researcher used purposive sampling to choose the sample. The sample was 24 students from VIII B class in the academic year of 2014/2015. The research applied two different tools to collect the data. There were open-ended questionnaire and semi structured interview which were analyzed by qualitative ways. The 24 students who were the sample in this research were asked to answer all the 8 items in the questionnaire. The researcher interviewed the English teacher to get more data. The collected data were analyzed by steps proposed by Miles and Huberman (1994).
