Abstract
This study was conducted to analyze students’ perceptions on the role-play activity implementation in English speaking at XI IPA 1 class of SMAN 1 Sekayam. It was also aimed to present possible technique and media to tried to find the actual problems in the field and then solve them collaboratively.
This study was caried out by a Descriptive Qualitative as the method which is conducted to analize the students’ perceptions in English speaking practice. The data were gathered through descriptive qualitative method.
The results of the study showed that there were some improvement in the students’ self-confidence during the role-play activitiesin each meeting. Based on the research conducted in XI IPA 1 class of SMA Negeri 1 Sekayam, it was found that role-play activity was an effective technique which made the students interested to learn speaking in English. It was proven by the enthusiasm of the students while practicing the role-play in front of the class.
Besides, they feel more confident when they did it with teammates and correcting one another. By using role-play technique, it can be seen that this activity brings students’ self-confidence because this is a fun learning activity and invites a lot of enthusiasm.
