Abstract

This research discussed the students’ difficulties in writing an essay of the second semester English students at IKIP PGRI Pontianak. It is intended to describe students’ difficulties in writing an essay of the second semester English students at IKIP PGRI Pontianak. This research was conducted used descriptive qualitative study, the main
source of this research were 8 students from A morning class of second semester English students at IKIP PGRI Pontianak. Furthermore,this research used students essay as instruments.Researcher analyzed the data used thematic analysis. From the data obtained used students essay, the researcher found several facts in the field. In students essay the most common mistakes found in grammar and mechanics include spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. There were also mistakes in form. It can be concluded that the students experienced difficulties in grammar, form, and mechanics.
