Abstract

This study aims to find out how short film media can improve the listening comprehension skills of class IX students of MTs Al-Mujtahid in the 2022/2023 Academic Year. This research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). Researchers used both quantitative and qualitative techniques to collect data. This study used tests and field notes as data collection tools, tests were used to collect quantitative data while field notes were used to collect qualitative data. The subjects of this study were 20 students of class IX at MTs Al-Mujtahid. This research was conducted in two cycles. In each cycle the researcher follows the stages of CAR procedures such as planning, action, observation, and reflection to analyze the progress of implementation. Each cycle will end with a test and then the results will be analyzed using a predetermined formula to see the students' improvement in listening comprehension. The results in this study indicate that there is an increase in students' listening comprehension skills. Most students gradually get good grades at the end of the cycle. The Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) for English Lessons is 75.00. In the pre-test there were 3 or 15% of students who passed the KKM and the pre-test average score was 50.50. Post-test results 1 in cycle one there were 5 students or 25% who passed the KKM by looking at the average test score obtained 66.00 and an increase of 30.69%. Furthermore, the results of post-test 2 in cycle II showed that there were 15 students or 75% who passed the KKM with an average score of 80.00 and an increase of 56.86%. The class conditions during the teaching and learning process were good and there was also a positive response from the English teacher and students towards these actions. In conclusion, watching English films can improve students' listening skills.
