The purpose of this research is to find out whether using news texts effective to teach writing skill. This research was descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this research were seventh grade students which consist of 22 students
of SMP Nurul Islam Sungai Kakap in the academic year of 2022/2023. This research found out that used news texts effective to teach writing skill. The researcher described there were improvement students’ behaviour and the students getting better to understand news text as media in teaching learning process. News Item Text helped students to be able to write the text and the students also participate in learning process. Based on the teaching and learning
process, the students looked very enthusiastic in learning English especially in the ability of writing. The students showed more motivate in learning. The students were active in writing in the class. News Item Text in teaching writing skill was very effective as media to teach writing.
