Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out students’ difficulties in reading comprehension based on aspects of reading comprehension such as determining main idea, supporting details, inference, vocabulary, and reference viewed from learning styles namely visual learning style, auditory learning style, and kinesthetics learning style. This research was conducted by using descriptive research mixed methods. This research was conducted to the Second-Semester Students of English Education Study Program at IKIP PGRI Pontianak in the Academic Year of 2021/2022. The sample in this research was class B Afternoon which consist of thirty-one students. The choosing sample using purposeful
sampling.
This research used questionnaire and interview as tools of collecting data. In addition, technique of data analysis from questionnaire used Ms. Excel to find out students score from each questionnaire items and also the researcher used the formula percentage (%). While, technique of data analysis from interview used Miles and Huberman’s model, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The finding of this research showed that students class B Afternoon had visual learners were sixteen students (52%) auditory learners were eight students (26%), and kinesthetics learners were seven students (22%). In addition, the students had faculty aspects of reading comprehension, namely determining main idea, identifying supporting detail, making inference, understanding vocabulary, and making reference.
The results of data analysis show that visual learners more dominant than auditory learners and kinesthetics learners. Meanwhile, the determining main idea is one of the most difficult aspects of reading comprehension. In addition, the result data analysis show that determining main idea is the most difficult aspects by students who have visual learning styles. Then, auditory learners have difficult aspects in making inference. While, students who have a kinesthetics learning style, the difficulty that the most frequently faced namely vocabulary and also reference is faced the students who are kinesthetics learners.
