Abstract
Fransiska Darmawati (2022). Exploring The Practices of English Village of Simpang Kasturi. Main Supervisor: Dr. Aunurrahman, M. Pd. Assistant Supervisor: Muhammad Iqbal Ripo Putra,M.Pd. This qualitative research aimed to explore the practices of English village at Simpang Kasturi village 2020/2021. A class consisted of thirty participants that were chosen purposefully as a sample. Participant observation, field notes collected the data, and students’ documents, in this case, the students' works. The researcher conducted this research in eight meetings during the teaching and learning activities. During the observations, this research collected the students’ works purposefully. The data analysis used genre analysis. As a result, it used triangulated to validate the data. The finding described the practices of the English village at Simpang Kasturi village that used a genre-based approach in learning activities. The English village practices that used a genre-based method in teaching and learning activities, explicit teaching, and scaffolding helped students did the work effectively because there was an interaction between the teacher, co-researcher, and participants. So, genre based approach can used to teach both in formal and non-formal English if it did with the correct principles and procedures. It can evidence by the significant change in the participants that the students could practice daily life texts and do a text-independent. Therefore, the teaching material classified is valid and practical to use in the English village of Simpang Kasturi.
