Abstract

This study aimed to find out how the use of the jigsaw technique improves students' reading comprehension in eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Pontianak. The method of the research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject
of this research was the VIIIA students of SMPN 2 Pontianak which consisted of 33 students. The techniques used to collect the data were observation techniques and measurement techniques. The tools used to collect data were observation
checklists, field notes, and reading test in form multiple-choice.The results showed that there was an Improvement in students' reading comprehension. The observation checklist and field notes showed that students' attitudes, interests, and attention increased from cycle I to cycle II by describing students' and teacher's performance, and than class environment which increased during the teaching and learning process. Then, the mean score result of students
on the reading test given from cycles 1 and 2 also increased. The students’ mean score in the first cycle was 66. The students’ mean score in the second cycle was
80. Most of the students gradually gained good score at the end of each cycle. The score of Minimum Mastery Criterion-Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM) of English lesson was 80 (eighty). In conclusion, Jigsaw Technique can improve
students’ reading comprehension.
